Nineteen talented mares have been included in nominations for Saturday’s Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield Racecourse; highlighted by the pending appearance of some of the Spring Carnival’s more exciting racing prospects.
Sabatini charged home to beat a talented field to the line in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1100m) first-up a fortnight ago and has been included in 2015 Tristarc Stakes nominations.
Returning to racing this year for consecutive wins in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m), the Street Cry mare progressed to second in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) and a credible fifth in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) most notably.
Sabatini absolutely flies in her first two or three starts upon resuming each time and should lay a great account for herself in the 2015 Tristarc Stakes.
Chris Waller could very well quinella the 2015 Tristarc Stakes after including both Catkins and Amicus in nominations.
Popular mare Catkins failed to fire when fifth in the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) last start, but will relish a second crack at 1400m this time.
Posting an incredible 16 wins and 13 minors through 36 career starts so far, Catkins returned to racing this year for consecutive wins in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) before running second in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
Having returned to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) on March 28th, the Dubawi mare again ran second in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) before placing second in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m).
Returning this time for success in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) in her only other start prior to the Golden Pendant, Catkins is sure to lay a great account for herself on Saturday.
A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2014 edition of the Thousand Guineas, Amicus also failed to fire in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last time but will relish a step-back in class and to mares’ company in the 2015 Tristarc Stakes.
Returning this time for success in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) on August 22nd, the Fastnet Rock mare beat a particularly handy field to the line in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 12th in her only other start this time.
Lee and Anthony Freedman are also set to saddle two in the Group 2 race on Saturday after including Hazard and Lucky Lago in 2015 Tristarc Stakes nominations.
Taking out each of the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) and Dane Ripper Stakes through a standout autumn and winter preparation, Hazard has been one of the Spring Carnival’s most unlucky in terms of barrier draws but he still performed well; running second in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) most notably.
Lucky Lago ran on for third in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) last start and appears poised for a return to the winner’s circle in the 2015 Tristarc Stakes.
The 2015 Tristarc Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
