July 22nd, 2015

Trainer Robert Smerdon has been pleased with the benefit taken by Lumosty from her time in the paddock and has revealed the rising mare will likely be kept to mares’ sprint races through the upcoming 2015 Spring Carnival.

Lumosty stamped her claims as one to watch through major three-year-old races during the 2014 Spring Carnival but arguably returned to racing in career-best form this year; winning each of the All Victorian Sprint Series Heat (1100m) and Listed Straight Six (1200m) amongst open company with complete ease.

While failing to fire and tenth in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m), the talented daughter of Fastnet Rock returned to the paddock after charging home to finish a credible third in less-than ideal conditions in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) on the Gold Coast on June 20th.

Smerdon was pleased with the ability and fortitude displayed by Lumosty during the Spring Carnival; revealing he will set the horse for sprint races like the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) should early form warrant a berth.

“She went to the paddock in Queensland after her run in the Tatt’s Tiara,” Smerdon told Racing Victoria.

“She came back into work this week.

“We’ll probably keep her to sprinting mares’ races through the spring but again we haven’t really determined what path we’re going to take.”

Debuting for second behind Eloping in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) in early 2015, Lumosty progressed to third in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) before returning to the paddock.

Running second in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) upon resuming in spring, the filly out of Luminous Eyes was unable to figure when eighth in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) but responded in the best way possible when taking out the Group 2 Moonee Valley Fillies’ Classic (1600m) on Cox Plate Day.

Having returned to the paddock after placing a credible sixth in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m), Lumosty is yet to be confirmed for a specific first point of call in spring.
