Classy field of ten mares have been confirmed for this weekend’s Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield Racecourse, highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of Australian racing.
Displaying an exceptional turn of foot to overcome a classy field and win the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on Day 2 of The Championships earlier this year, trainer Gai Waterhouse has confirmed Diamond Drille in the 2014 Tristarc Stakes final field.
Claiming a total of five race wins and one minor places from her eleven competitive starts so far, Diamond Drille finished fifth in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) at the beginning of her autumn preparation before a forgettable performance for eighth in the Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) two weeks later.
Responding well in returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 3 Echo Aspiration Quality (1600m) on March 15th, the Al Maher mare ran on from the rear of the field to finish fourth in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) in what was her only other start prior to her crowning as Queen Of The Turf.
Unable to figure when eighth in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) first-up this time, Diamond Drille is offered a good chance of returning to competitive form in the Tristarc Stakes from the ideal barrier 2.
Likely to receive the run of the race from barrier 3 in the 2014 Tristarc Stakes, May’s Dream has also returned to racing in career best form this year and appears primed for a return to the winner’s circle this weekend.
Finishing fourth in a minor over 1200m first-up on March 14th, May’s Dream charged home to win the Pantry Packer Handicap (1523m) with ease on March 29th.
Running on for third in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) on April 12th, the New Approach mare was given little hope of figuring in contention in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) on April 26th but displayed a keen turn of foot to finish a nose in the clear of Star Fashion and register a maiden win at the highest level.
Having run seventh in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) and third in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) so-far this time, trainer Darren Weir is confident jockey Brad Rawiller will again get the best from May’s Dream in the 2014 Tristarc Stakes.
Arguably one of the county’s best current racehorses yet to break through for a Group 1 victory, Catkins has returned to racing in typically scintillating form this time in and is a leading chance of success in the 2014 Tristarc Stakes.
Claiming 12 race wins and eight minor places from her 25 competitive appearances on course so far, Catkins failed to finish outside the places over six 2013 Spring Carnival starts highlighted by wins in the How Now Stakes and Group 3 Eliza Park International Stakes (1600m) and close second in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m).
Claiming a further three wins and one place from six autumn starts including both the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Emancipation Stakes, the Dubawi mare won the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) with ease first-up on September 13th before running a close second to Arabian Gold in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) last time out.
