2014 Tristarc Stakes likely to Figure for Jessy Belle

August 6th, 2014

Finding exceptional form over recent appearances in Victoria, trainer Luke Oliver has revealed he will target a step-up in class for talented sprinter Jessy Belle through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, including a likely tilt at the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 18th.

Securing an impressive total of five wins and as many minor places from just 13 competitive race starts so far, Jessy Belle strolled home to win the Sportingbet Fillies Maiden (1600m) at Moonee Valley last weekend; following up an unlucky run for second in the Vintage Crop & The Curragh Handicap (1400m) on July 19th.

Understandably pleased with the ever-building form and class of the Rock Of Gibraltar mare, Oliver told TVN Jessy Belle has more than warranted consideration for a step-up in race through spring.

“She’s not the sort of horse to run away from a field like that, but she was too strong,” Oliver said.

“Every time we’ve raised the bar she has stepped up and I’ve had less talented horses than her be very competitive in stakes races before.

“She’s won three races at Moonee Valley now, but in saying that she’s pretty versatile and there’s a few mares mile races over the spring which we can look at now.”

Partnering the four-year-old in her last three competitive appearances on track, jockey Chris Symons gave a glowing report of Jessy Belle’s run for victory in the Sportingbet Fillies Maiden, ultimately highlighting her class and potential.

“She naturally begins so well but it was the worst case scenario to lead,” Symons said.

“But I wasn’t going to pull her molars out trying to pull her back.

“Luke knew she was the best horse in the race, I knew she was the best horse in the race and I had no real instructions other than to just to let her find her rhythm.”

Likely to be considered on the back of continued success in mares races through spring; the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on November 1st is also an option for Jessy Belle.
